Analysis Dialysis

  1. What were the main ideas of the unit?  What was the purpose?
    1. The main idea of this unit was to help us identify pieces of literature and to understand them more deeply. If we can do that we will have a more deeper understanding and appreciation of well written works.
  2. How did we learn the main ideas?
    1. Through reading and discussing the text "How to read literature like a professor" we came about a knowledge that enlightened our views on both texts and movies.
  3. What went well?  Why?
    1. I think discussing the book as a class as a whole in the group worked well because we were able to voice our own views on the subject and get a more well-rounded view of the material.
  4. What needs work?  Why?
    1. Assigning the chapters needs to be much more thought out. There were times I didn't even know we were supposed to read a certain chapter, or they weren't assigned because they were forgotten, or even just there too many chapters to read through at one time and I wasn't able to absorb the information as fully.
  5. What are some suggestions for doing things differently the next time?
    1. Maybe assign one chapter but don’t assign another one immediately so that one chapter has time to soak in. Perhaps review it the day after if you assign another chapter immediately.
  6. What are your general reactions Foster's particular brand of literary criticism?
    1. I find his criticism very fitting to his text and I enjoy reading this type of format. I have learned a lot about how authors write texts and how to identify the elements in literature more efficiently now.
